|Dear Friends and Neighbors,
As is typical, the Legislature had a mixed bag of results this year. Despite it all, divided government, with Republicans and Democrats each controlling the House and Senate respectively, made fairly good progress… until the last few hours!
Sadly, the Governor vetoed the 2016 Tax Bill, killing major reforms and ONE-HALF BILLION DOLLARS in TAX CUTS! And a carefully balanced BIPARTISAN Bonding Bill featuring significant statewide funding for roads and bridges was brought down by a handful of urban legislators who are obsessed with forcing more funds for light rail projects.
There were also positive developments including a full state income tax exemption for military veteran pensions, strengthening sex trafficking laws, as well as expanding the rights of students and parents in our schools.
Since the legislative session is now concluded and Governor Dayton has failed to call us back into a special session, I am traveling throughout our district meeting with constituents and enjoying local community events.
If you have any issues that need my attention, please call or email me at any time.l
I look forward to another great year of service to the people of our northwest suburbs!
